About one hour from Cuernavaca where our Spanish school is you can find “Las Grutas de Cacahuamilpa”, on the frontier between State of Morelos and State of Guerrero, a treasure lies under the ground: the incredible natural formations of the rocks and caverns of the area. About 25 minutes from Taxco, you will discover the Grutas de Cacahuamilpa National Park, a favourite with cavern-lovers in globally and Mexico. The caves were first found in 1834, then in 1936 were held a safe area that was natural.
More than 90 rooms that are not closed to people, and it takes about 2 hours to cover them all. The 2-kilometer walk is taxing but hugely pleasing as you wander through these remnants of historical imagination. Guides share anecdotes and details that enrich the visit farther. Guided tours begin at 10 a.m. daily. Some of the tunnels which make up the cavern system reach a staggering span of up to 10 kilometers. The height of the caverns ranges to 70 meters in the rooms that are greatest. Since they can be naturally dim, the rooms are illuminated with artificial light, which actually picks out the excessive stalactite (limestone formations hanging from your roof) and stalagmite (those rising in the floor) formations. Based on popular imagination, these shapes shape that is natural bodies and faces including fountains, thrones, goats as well as a cathedral.
Some of the species that inhabit the region are green iguana, badger or the coati, rattlesnake, cougar, lynx, and ocelot.
At Chacmool we usually organize field trips to visit this and other beautiful places. Come and Learn Spanish with Us.
